During the winter of 2007, Jonathan and Jen Register adopted a Labrador Retriever/American Staffordshire Terrier mix puppy. They soon found out that finding professional, dependable, and secure pet care services for their puppy while they were away from their home, and working longs hours at work was virtually impossible. They called numerous pet sitters, only to find out nearly all were booked up when they needed their services. The sitters they encountered that weren’t booked up lacked professionalism, reliability, and insurance or bonding.
They decided not to use the services of a kennel or boarding facility out of concerns of the high risk of their puppy becoming sick. They also worried about the physiological effects their puppy would endure from being pulled out of her normal routine, and forced to live in a small, crowded cage.
They ended up recruiting Jen’s brother and parents to look after their puppy when they worked long hours, or had to travel. While this arrangement did work, Jonathan and Jen hated imposing on their family and knew that there had to be a better, long-term solution to this problem.
Jonathan discovered that other pet owners also had difficulty finding professional, dependable, and secure pet care for their pets. He decided that he was going to work to create the solution to this common problem. He began to diligently form a business plan and he enlisted the help of his wife to create the company. With their combined experience in management, finance, operations, marketing, and sales, they laid the foundations for their company.
In April 2008 Jonathan and Jen formed ARF! Pet Care with the goal to provide professional, loving, dependable, and secure pet care services to their clients throughout the Hampton Roads region. They decided early on they would strive to make ARF! Pet Care the most streamlined and respected pet sitting company in the region.
ARF! Pet Care exists today to serve their clients, and their number one mission is to consistently exceed their client’s expectations in a fun, professional, dependable, and secure manner.
